Posted February 23, 2019 06:16:37The Seahawks had the second-highest defensive DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average) in the NFL in 2018, per Football Outsiders, but they didn’t get a ton of help from their linebackers and corners, who combined for only 15 sacks, which ranked 20th in the league.
In fact, they had the third-lowest sack rate among all defensive teams, per Pro Football Focus.
They had the fourth-lowst number of sacks in the middle of the field, which wasn’t exactly a surprise.
There are a lot of different ways to evaluate an offense, but a high sack rate is an obvious thing to look at when comparing the Seahawks to teams who do a good job of stopping the run.
It’s also an indication that the Seahawks should have looked at the rest of the league more and adjusted their pass rush to account for the run-heavy nature of the Seahawks offense.
Instead, the defense didn’t do anything to help the run defense, which had an even higher rate of runs allowed per game than the rest.
“We can’t have one of the best defenses in the game, but we can have the best defense in the business, right?”
Seahawks general manager John Schneider said.
“So we’ve got to do a better job of making sure we’re able to be that.
If we can do that, we can be the best team in the division.
I think the pass rush is one of those things that you’ve got, in my opinion, to make sure that the pass rushers understand the game and understand the responsibilities of the defensive backs.
They have to make plays on the ball.
And we’ve definitely got to be able to give them a good look to make the plays.”
The Seahawks have been criticized for the pass rushing woes in the past, but that hasn’t always been the case.
In 2017, the team was criticized for their pass rushing, but Schneider said that he doesn’t believe the Seahawks were ever as bad as he has made them out to be.
If the pass rusher is not the problem, then why are they so terrible against the run?
It seems like Schneider has a theory.
“You’ve got a lot more pressure,” he said.
This was not an interview.
Schneider did not answer a direct question about what the Seahawks are doing to improve their pass rushing.
Schneider was asked to talk about the Seahawks’ defensive line after the game after they had won by a score of 27-3.
He said the defensive line was one of his biggest problems with the Seahawks, but he also said the unit is improving.
“We’re getting better,” Schneider said when asked about his defensive line.
“I think that’s a huge deal.
It took me a while to get over that hump because we had a lot to do.
But I think I’ve been pretty good about it.”
He said he wants to improve the pass defense, and said he doesn.
He acknowledged the Seahawks have problems in pass rush, but said the secondary has been better.
The pass rush has always been a problem, but the Seahawks defense has improved greatly this year, according to Schneider.
“I think we’re going to be better,” he added.
“And we’ve seen that the secondary, it’s been getting better.
We’re a good defensive secondary, and I think we’ve been a good pass defense.”
The Seahawks are 0-8 when their pass defense is the most pressured, but 3-0 when they’re the most pressure-free.
In 2018, the Seahawks went 0-6 when their passes were pressured.
In terms of the team’s run defense this year?
It’s been a mixed bag.
The Seahawks have allowed only 17 rushing touchdowns.
Injuries to starting defensive tackle Chris Clemons and defensive end Michael Bennett have both limited them in the run game.
However, the Seattle defense has allowed only 14 rushing touchdowns in 2018.
It was the third time this season that Seattle has allowed fewer rushing touchdowns than the opposition, which also happened in 2017.
Seattle has had a bit of a rough stretch in the secondary.
Both of the past two years, they’ve been 1-7 when they’ve allowed the most rushing touchdowns, which is the worst rate of any team in football.
The 2017 season also saw them miss their rookie free safety Eric Berry and free safety Chris Clemmings, who had a neck injury in the season opener against the Packers.
However, both of those losses came at home against a weaker pass rush than they’ve faced so far this season.
In Week 2, the Chiefs lost cornerback Marcus Peters, who was injured in a tackle.
In the last two weeks, the Saints have allowed the second fewest rushing yards to opposing running backs, and the Seahawks haven’t been able to score touchdowns in a game since the bye week
