This year’s finalists are:Lotte Kato, who was awarded the honor for her work on the new manga-inspired title of a girl who is born with an extraordinary ability to see the future, as well as her work as a concept artist on the upcoming visual novel adaptation of Hana to Chikara, also titled Yuki no Yume no Kyuu no Jikan.
Kato was also awarded the prize for her illustration for the new anime film adaptation of Nisekoi, and her work for the popular series Akita no Arashi.
Katsuyuki Nagashima, the director of the animation studio Akatsuki Pictures, was named the Japan’s top female director of animation.
“As the world is constantly changing, the only thing that remains the same is the woman who is able to keep the tradition of traditional Japanese animation alive,” Nagashimas creator, Takashi Shimizu, said.
“Katsumi has been making anime with an emphasis on the women who work in animation since her childhood.”
The judges at the ceremony included Shinsuke Takahashi, who is the director and chief producer of the popular anime series NiseKOI, as the acting director; Ryota Nakajima, who directed the live-action movie series Akatsuki no Kajitsu; and Takahiro Hiraoka, who worked on the animation for the television series Love Live!

The awards ceremony will be held at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, starting on April 5.
